Winter in Bulgaria

The first snow has fallen and Christmas is just around the corner!
Then it’s off to the mountains – sunshine, snow and winter fun. For those who want to avoid the hustle & bustle of the bigger ski resorts there are still plenty of charming places off the beaten track.
Winter in the cities is less pleasant especially if you have to move about by car or on foot. Un-cleared snow quickly becomes unattractive and pavements can be treacherous.
In Sofia there is as always at this time of year a full diary of cultural and charity events to choose from. You will find the most interesting listed in our events section.
This is also the season for Traditional holidays of which the Kukeri Masquerades are probably the most spectacular.
